The Brembo Group kicks off the 2026 Formula 1 season in a year of profound transformation for the pinnacle of motorsport. The new technical regulations introduce completely redesigned single seater race cars featuring reduced weight, active aerodynamics, an electrical system capable of tripling acceleration and many other technical changes that are reshaping on track behavior, making deceleration management one of the most challenging and decisive aspects for drivers.

“We are proud to play a leading role in this new era set to redefine Formula 1,” said Matteo Tiraboschi, Executive Chairman of the Brembo Group. “Thanks to the know how and technological innovation of Brembo, AP Racing and Öhlins, F1 teams can rely on a complete portfolio of solutions that includes braking systems, clutches and dampers. Being chosen by the best is both a great responsibility and a strong motivation to continue striving for excellence.”

The strength of the Brembo Group

In this constantly evolving context, Brembo confirms its presence alongside all 11 teams, with solutions designed to meet the new demands of the category. Across the entire grid, all teams will be supplied with Group’s calipers (Brembo/AP Racing), while five out of 11 teams will be equipped with complete braking systems, including calipers, pads and discs. In addition to calipers, Brembo will also supply most teams with Brake by Wire systems and master cylinders.

The evolution also involves the entire ecosystem of the Group’s brands. AP Racing, part of the Brembo family since 2000, will continue to supply high performance clutches and brake-clutch systems to eight of the 11 teams. Likewise, Öhlins – which joined the Group in 2025 – strengthens its contribution with dampers developed for cars featuring constantly changing aerodynamics, supplying five of the 11 teams.

A new design era for Formula 1 in 2026

For the first time in 30 years, the regulations open up radically new design scenarios. Brake calipers are no longer constrained by the traditional six piston, two pad configuration: teams can now adopt more diversified layouts, with up to eight pistons and four pads, delivering greater braking torque and more even pressure distribution. Brake discs have also been rethought: smaller but more numerous holes improve ventilation. Completing the picture, the option of a third caliper mounting point ensures greater stiffness and a more consistent, precise pedal feel throughout the lap.

The increase in electrical power significantly changes braking behavior. At the rear, much more energy is recovered, reducing the load on the conventional braking system, while it remains crucial during peak demand. At the front, performance levels are similar to last season. The result is a longer, more “hybrid” braking phase, where software plays an increasingly important role and requires carbon materials that remain stable and reliable under all operating conditions.

Such a high degree of freedom inevitably leads to very different technical choices from one team to another: some have ventured into more extreme solutions, while others have opted for a more conservative approach. On track competition will determine which direction proves most successful. The season is also likely to evolve, with some teams committing early to aggressive configurations from the opening Grands Prix, while others may discover development potential and adjust course during the year to align with more competitive solutions.

Tested by the best

With more than fifty years of experience in Motorsport, Brembo Group solutions are once again being chosen by teams and drivers in this new technical era, confirming the Group’s leadership in a championship that continues to evolve in structure, technology and driving style. In a Formula 1 that has become a laboratory of excellence at the highest level, Brembo reaffirms its role as a strategic partner, capable of designing innovations that deliver outstanding performance and maximum safety.
