Brembo, a world leader in the production of braking systems, celebrates a historic milestone: 50 years of innovation and success in the world of Motorsport. This year, the company marks this important anniversary by taking center stage at the Mugello MotoGP, where it will once again be the prestigious Title Sponsor of the Tuscan circuit for the second consecutive year. Brembo also stands out as the MotoGP Braking Inspiration Partner, continuously helping to redefine performance and safety standards in motorcycle racing.

"Brembo, supplier of all MotoGP teams, is this year the Title Sponsor for the race scheduled at the Mugello circuit: a choice strongly intended by us to celebrate 50 years of history and success in Motorsport, a special anniversary." stated Matteo Tiraboschi, Executive Chairman of Brembo. "We are recognized by all riders and teams as a technological leader capable of providing innovative solutions for braking systems, clutches, wheels, and even suspensions."

The strategic role of Öhlins in MotoGP

Starting this year, the Swedish company has become part of the Brembo Group, further extending the group’s presence in the world of two-wheel racing. Öhlins provide the rear shock and front forks to all but two teams in MotoGP.
By combining the expertise of Brembo and Öhlins, riders can rely on unparalleled quality and excellence, further raising the standard of motorcycle competitions.

A look at the Mugello circuit: the brakes at San Donato corner

The Mugello circuit, one of the most iconic motorcycle tracks, is nestled in the Tuscan hills. Spanning 5,245 meters, it offers an exciting mix of fast turns, straights, and technical hairpins that challenge both riders and bikes. Mugello is renowned for its long main straight, where motorcycles reach speeds exceeding 350 km/h, demanding impeccable braking system efficiency.
Braking at Mugello, although limited, is among the most demanding in the MotoGP calendar. One of the most critical braking points occurs at the end of the main straight, at the iconic San Donato corner, where riders decelerate from extreme speeds to around 92 km/h in mere moments, subjecting the brakes to enormous thermal and mechanical stress.

50 years of Brembo in Racing: some historical anecdotes about the Motorcycle World Championship

In 1976, Brembo made his first appearance in the 500 Class. On August 20 1978, Virginio Ferrari, riding a Suzuki RG500 from the Gallina team equipped with two-piston calipers, an axial pump, and cast iron discs, won the West German Grand Prix in the 500cc class on the legendary Nürburgring circuit, spanning 22.835 kilometers.
A decisive moment for Brembo came in 1983 when Team Agostini, managed by the renowned Giacomo Agostini, chose Brembo brakes for their Yamaha motorcycles. This collaboration led to outstanding results: Eddie Lawson clinched three World Championships in 1984, 1986, and 1988, marking the first victories for a Japanese motorcycle equipped with Italian brakes.
By the late 1980s, Brembo introduced a technological revolution with the thumb brake, used for the first time in racing in 1986.
Towards the late 1990s, Brembo brought another historic innovation to the track: the radial caliper. The first motorcycle to use it was the Aprilia 250 in 1998. With the advent of MotoGP in 2002, which replaced the 500cc class, Brembo continued to dominate competitions, maintaining a streak of victories that started in the 500cc class in 1995 and continues to this day.

The new Brembo service truck will arrive at Mugello

A major new addition to the paddock at the Tuscan circuit: the new Brembo truck. On the ground floor, the truck will host the operational areas for Brembo engineers, ready to support teams during every race weekend with assistance on all components provided in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, and MotoE. What sets this new arrival apart from the previous truck is the presence of an additional upper floor, dedicated to Brembo hospitality - a space designed to welcome guests and partners in an exclusive environment. The truck will be installed in the paddock of all European races and some international ones as well.
