The year 2026 marks an important anniversary for MotoGP: it was 2002 when the premier class of the World Championship, until that moment called the '500 class', changed identity. In that year, in fact, the organizers of the top two-wheeled motorsport championship decided to identify the major category with the name MotoGP. From that year, all world championships have been won by riders who chose Brembo, which, since 2016, has supplied 100% of the grid. Brembo will provide its customized braking systems to all 22 riders of the 25th MotoGP championship, also in 2026.

It was 1976 when Brembo supplied the first calipers in a 500cc world championship race: today more than 600 GPs were won by riders who, first in 500cc and then in MotoGP, relied on the solutions designed by Brembo. The 11 teams will trust the performance, reliability and safety of Brembo components: brake calipers, brake discs, brake master cylinders, clutch master cylinders and pads. During the season, Brembo will offer customized technical solutions for each rider, based on riding style, track characteristics and race strategy.

The strength of the Brembo Group

Not only brakes, but also forks, shocks, clutches and wheels: thanks to a series of strategic acquisitions over the last 25 years, the wheel side of most MotoGP teams on the grid will be supplied with components produced by companies of the Brembo Group. In detail:

  • Öhlins will supply carbon fiber forks and aluminum shocks to 9 teams out of 11;
  • AP Racing will supply the most recent carbon clutch technology to 5 teams out of 11;
  • Marchesini will equip 9 teams out of 11 with forged magnesium wheels, available in the configuration with 5 Y-spokes or 7 spokes both for the front and for the rear.

The Bergamo-based company is also Braking Inspiration Partner of MotoGP since 2023 and, as already happened in 2024 and 2025, will be Title Sponsor of the Italian GP at Mugello also in 2026.

The Brembo braking system in MotoGP: curiosities and technical details

Also for the 2026 season, Brembo will support the riders and the teams in choosing the best braking component solutions. Overall, the MotoGP braking system has a weight of about 2.3 kg.
As for brake discs, the riders will be able to choose among various carbon solutions, based on their riding style and personal preferences. Among the most appreciated solutions, there is the finned disc, since it allows greater heat dissipation. The disc weighs 1.4 kg and must maintain an operating temperature between 250° and 850°.
With reference to calipers, all riders will continue to use the now well-known GP4 finned caliper, introduced in 2020.

Moto2 and Moto3 will also brake with Brembo and Öhlins

Brembo confirms its presence as the leader of braking systems also in the lower categories of the World Championship. The Bergamo-based company will supply 100% of the teams with calipers, about 30% with steel discs, 80% with pads, 90% with master cylinders and just under 30% with Marchesini wheels to the 14 Moto2 teams and the 13 Moto3 teams that will race in 2026.

An important role also for Öhlins suspensions, present on 70% of the Moto2 grid and 50% of the Moto3 grid.

As for discs, both Moto2 and Moto3 teams will have a double choice depending on the severity of the circuit: finned or light steel discs, with an operating temperature that must remain below 650° to achieve the highest level of performance in both classes. The Moto3 disc (Ø218) weighs about 0.5 kg, while the Moto2 disc (Ø305) weighs 1.3 kg, almost triple compared to the disc of the smaller series.

Regarding the calipers, Brembo also offers the concept of finned calipers in Moto2 and Moto3, which derives from the GP4 caliper of MotoGP. Overall, between front wheel and rear wheel, the Moto2 braking system has a weight of about 6 kg, while that of Moto3 is close to 4.5 kg.
